Police Misconduct

Police misconduct may include violations of constitutional rights or generally accepted police policies, regulations, and standards of conduct. Police beatings, excessive force, false arrest or imprisonment, sexual harassment, psychological terror, physical torture, privacy invasions, and forceful assaults on the homes of citizens are some examples of police misconduct. Oftentimes, the prosecutor will prosecute a person without probable cause or for some other improper motive such as to conceal or cove rup police misconduct.

Those who have been a victim of such actions committed by law enforcement agents may claim compensatory and/or punitive damages. Compensatory damages may be "economic losses," such as medical expenses, loss of wages or lost earning potential, and miscellaneous expenses. They may also include "noneconomic losses" such as pain, suffering, inconvenience, physical impairment and disability, and physical disfigurement.
